Here We Go Brownies...

Romeo Crennel shuffled out to the Browns practice field, about to open his first training camp as a head coach. But he still had time to stop and shake hands with a few fans. And to be sure, there were more than a few.

Be still Butch Davis' heart.

The exiled ex-Browns coach once said fans in Cleveland needed to get a life. That was with his foot already stuck in his mouth (see "Butch's draft record" for more).

The honeymoon is only beginning for Crennel. It may not last long if his team does not win. But I'm guessing there will be more public room for error with Romeo, who does not seem to possess an arrogant bone in his body.

How could you not want to play for the man?

Veteran corner Gary Baxter was noticably impressed.

Kenard Lang seems genuinely excited to move from defensive end to outside linebacker. Why? Because Coach Crennel thought it might be a good idea.

Rookie quarterback Charlie Frye wondered why practice was so short Friday--he was ready for more.

I'm not about to sit here and wave my old "Growl Towel" for a winning season. Realistically, this team is a long way from that--even GM Phil Savage admitted such this afternoon.

But what's wrong with getting excited about the Browns? Since 1994, this town has had one ill-fated playoff season to bark for.

Finally, it seems the franchise has found it's compass. And it points up.

Pass the orange Kool-Aid. I'm thirsty.

Browns' Fans, what do you think? Give me a shout at chandler@wews.com with your thoughts.
