Nothing Shy About Braylon

Braylon Edwards sat down in front of a row of cameras, wearing a blue hat with a maize block "M" in support of Michigan--his alma mater.

Such a choice in head apparel would make any typical Browns player the scorn of its passionate fanbase (remember, most Browns fans are Ohio State fans, too). But then, Braylon Edwards is nothing close to typical.

He is brash. He is bold. And he is back.

At least, that's was the not-so-subtle message written in black on his white wristbands as he held his arms up for Brownstown to see.

"This is not where I'm supposed to be, but I am," boasted Edwards, proud as ever.

On any day in the NFL, Edwards is just what the Browns need. But in particular, two days after losing Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley to a season ending knee injury, the hype and hyperbole that flow from Braylon's mouth is exactly what the Browns need.

His unexpected return to the field on Saturday was a lift. Always one to make an entrance, the Browns second-year wide receiver broke through the doors of the Berea complex with a hop in his step. And seven months after surgery to repair a torn ACL, Braylon's step showed no signs of a limp. He was activated more than two months ahead of schedule, and took the moment to throw his name alongside Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, who is being praised for a quick recovery from a similar injury.

Jealous? No, just try anxious. Braylon has never suffered an injury so severe. He had surgery in January, and stayed in Cleveland to rehab through the winter. Realistic or not, he set the September 10th opener as his goal for return.

"We're going to come back when we're ready to come back," cautioned Edwards. "And please believe, once I'm back, I'm never going back to the training room."

To assure that, he is not yet permitted to practice in contact drills. But he is running, cutting, jumping, and catching.

Oh, and he's talking. Welcome back, Braylon.

Browns fans, do you think Braylon can make it back for the season opener? Send in your thoughts to 5sports@newsnet5.com
