Indians, Foulke Close To Deal

The Indians will sign reliever Keith Foulke to a one year deal, according to Major League Baseball sources. The team was waiting on results of a physical, which Foulke arrived in town to take on Tuesday. An official announcement is expected to come by Thursday afternoon.
Foulke will not simply assume the closer's job, though. Expect him to compete with Joe Borowski for the position this spring.
A 34 year old righty, Foulke signed in Boston for big bucks ($20 million over 3 years) in 2003 and promptly solidified the back end of the Red Sox bullpen. He saved 32 games on the way to the World Series in 2004 for Boston, but faded from the scene because of various injuries.
He did pitch well in September for the Sox, making 11 consecutive scoreless appearances.
