SECOND HALF: OSU vs. XAVIER
By John Chandler
Big Mo...
Momentum officially belongs to Xavier, after the Musketeers explode out of the second half gates for 5 quick points and a 30-29 lead. The quick hands of Drew Lavender just picked Mike Conley's pocket... Ohio State looks shell shocked.
Justin Doellman's jumper pushed the run to 7-0, until Greg Oden's answer. But the big man blew his chance for a three-point play by fronting his free throw. Maybe he should go back to shooting them left-handed?
17:00, 2nd half... OSU 31, Xavier 32
Wake Up, Greg
Greg Oden's alarm clock just sounded. A massive block on Brandon Cole at one end led to a series of offensive rebounds on the other. That the Buckeyes couldn't finish didn't seem to concern coach Matta much... he was yelling in Oden's direction, red faced and pumping both fists in support. It's to the point of sounding cliche now, but Greg Oden should be the difference in this game; this tournament, for that matter. As good of a defensive job as Cole and Duncan are doing on Oden (and it has been good), he's still overpowering.
13:30, 2nd half... OSU 38, Xavier 37
After Xavier's Josh Duncan came up just short on an open three, Oden finished the break with a leaning, stretching three-point play. I was waiting for an offensive foul call, and I suspect coach Sean Miller was, too.
But credit to Xavier, who's quicker with an answer than Alex Trebek... this time, the three dropped for a 42-41 lead. Then Justin Cage drove the baseline for a 44-41 lead, and the Buckeye bench appears very uneasy.
Wow. Another Cage three just blew the roof off of the Rupp.
10:00, 2nd half... OSU 41 ,Xavier 47
How's your blood pressure, Buckeye Nation?
