2ND HALF: OSU vs. Georgetown
By John Chandler
Halftime Helpings...
It crossed my mind, while making the long walk back to the Georgia Dome media room (about where Deion Sanders once performed his Primetime end zone dance)...
* Georgetown blew a golden chance to coast into the Championship game. With Oden on the bench for 17 minutes, the Hoyas should've taken a comfortable lead to the lockers at the half. Instead, credit Othello Hunter and Matt Terwilliger for not stumbling over Roy Hibbert.
* Hibbert is a stud.
* Jeff Green is a stud, too.
* Ron Lewis's line: 14 min, 1-3, 5 points. Ohio State needs more.
Welcome Back
After 22 minutes and 9 seconds of basketball, Greg Oden finally scored his first two of the game. Problem is, Roy Hibbert and Jonathan Wallace each have 10 in that time.
Jesse Sapp's three at 16:30 of the second half gives the Hoyas a 34-33 lead. At this rate, I wonder if they'll lose it.
Bigs Difference
With a clean block of Oden at 15:56 of the 2nd half, Hibbert is now dominating this highly touted battle of the bigs. Of course, he can thank the officials for an assist. The two quick (and questionable) fouls on Oden set the tone for this, even after he returned in the 2nd half. Greg's first four mintes of the half were tenative, at best.
Why not just let them play, people asked? Good question. It appears that's the plan, now. The way Oden's listlessly playing, that might not help Ohio State.
15:26, 2nd half: Oden's first dunk of the game, surrounded by three blue jersies. Mike Conley follows with a layup in transition and a 38-34 lead.
Chandler, speaking too soon? Naw, you don't say...
12:00 mark, and Oden checks back into the bench with a third foul. Roy Hibbert respons with a quick two (14 points).
10:00, 2nd half: OSU 44, GU 41.
