FINAL: OSU 67, Georgetown 60

By John Chandler

Jonathan Wallace's three hadn't yet worked it's way through the net before Thad Matta pulled Greg Oden up off the bench. With 9:00 to play in a 44-44 ballgame, the low post is the place for him, not the pine.

Especially with Hibbert heading to the bench, courtesy of a third foul. And Oden respons with a quick two. All of a sudden, Greg's going strong with 10 points.

David Lighty and Jamar Butler both finish strong with layups, Butler's brining the rather robust section of scarlet-clad fans to their feet for a little Hang On Sloopy. 'Bout time. I was wondering when the Bucks would request that tune.

Cool Conley
Hate to say I told you so, because that's not me, but what the hell... Mike Conley's 13 points have kept the Buckeyes alive. Oden's teammate since the 6th grade, Conley has a handle on the game that most coaches wish their seniors had.

Cleared For Takeoff
With 6:37 to play, Greg Oden took two steps towards the rim--I swear, the ball was higher than the square in his right hand--and proceded to hammer what could've been a back-breaking dunk. He missed the shot, but drew the foul (justice?) for two big ones (he split them).

Who Knew?
Roy Hibbert checked back into the game, and proceeded to drill a three from the top. Quite a sight.

Final Four... Minutes
* Oden out-muscled Hibbert for a rebound... ditto, David Lighty?

* Jessie Sapp's two make this a game, 56-52 with 3:00 to play.

* Oden picks up his 4th foul at 2:36. I can't help but wonder if they just never would've called one of those first quick two fouls, if this would've been as close a game.

* Look at Gator Nation, sitting quietly behind the Buckeyes' bench (strategic, no?)... if I may digress for a moment, I've never run across a cockier group. Florida fans are already talking about Monday. Wonder what UCLA thinks about that?

* Oden played Hibbert perfectly on a drive to the bucket. Roy may beat him in points, but Greg handled him when it mattered most.

* David Lighty draws a three point play, pumping his fist furiously afterwards. Ballgame. The kid from Cleveland just sent the Hoyas home and the Buckeyes to the title game. Lighty may not get the headlines, but the freshman came to play this tournament.

FINAL: OSU 67, GEORGETOWN 60... Monday can't come fast enough. Neither can the Florida Gators.
