FINAL: OSU 92 MEMPHIS 76
By John Chandler
Memphis has junked the triple in favor of driving to the basket. And the Buckeyes are letting them... Chris Douglas-Roberts can move, that's for sure.
12:20, 2nd half: OSU54, Memphis 56... we have our first Daequan Cook sighting, hitting a three from the corner to pull the Buckeyes within two.
Ready, Aim...
Greg Oden game Ohio State a 64-62 lead with 9:05 to play on a trademark two-hander, but Antonio Anderson took it right back with a jumper. I'm thinking my man, Doc, from Pat O'Brien's fine eating establishment here in San Antonio was right: bring your six guns, and get ready for a shootout. The stretch run feels like it's shaping up to be one.
Daequan Cook is logging quality minutes in the 2nd half, after 15 minutes of first half bench time. Maybe it's just me, but he just hasn't looked comfortable in two South Regional games.
Greg Gets Going
Greg Oden's rejection of Joey Dorsey with just under 6:00 to play led to transition... with the big man finishing off the job on the offensive end. Oden's now on his game, leading the Buckeyes with 17 points, and that sequence (for a 71-64 lead) may just be the turning point when it's all said and done. How good is his game right now? Dude has four fouls and he's still in the game.
Final Four...minutes
* Ron Lewis just threw up another three from the Alamo. This time, nothing but net. Take that, Chandler, right?
* With Ohio State up 76-66 and 3:47 to play, Memphis looks a little unsettled. Even that Tony The Tiger knockoff of a mascot (he goes by Pouncer, for those of you keeping track of that sort of thing) has a little fear in his eyes. Wait... sorry... a cheerleader was standing on his tail. My bad.
* Memphis is frustrating Coach John Calipari. On consecutive possessions the coach shouted, then gestured for an oblivious Tiger player to rotate from the corner. Sorry, coach, can't hear ya. That excuse will go over about as well as... a wardrobe malfunction at the Super Bowl (my ode to Chris Miller).
* Back to back three's by Hunt and Kemp put a little life back in Coach Calipari's step on the bench, but it might be a little too lake.
* If body language ever talked: with less than 2 minutes to play, Joey Dorsey is slumped in his seat on the bench. I can't help but think he put himself there, and I can't help but wonder if he thinks Oden is all that overrated, now.
FINAL: OSU 92 MEMPHIS 76... I hear Atlanta's lovely this time of year.
